July 5, 2016 5:08 am

Opposition MP and National Federation Party parliamentarian, Prem Singh today raised questions on the allocation made to the Fiji Roads Authority in the 2016/2017 budget.

The Fiji Roads Authority has been allocated $527.2 million in the new budget.

Singh claimed in the last three years over $2.726 billion had been allocated to FRA and the Infrastructure Minister failed to inform the Parliament on how much money had been utilized on the capital construction including roads, bridges and jetties.

“_Despite the funding FRA failed to regularly check the state of Tamavua I Wai Bridge in the last four years, a bridge that is the only link out to Viti Levu, from the Capital, via Queens road. The FRA admitted to that the bridge was inspected four years ago, this is the height of irresponsibility.”_

Meanwhile, the Minister for Infrastructure, Praveen Kumar Bala, informed the parliament yesterday that since its inception in 2013, the Fiji Roads Authority has built six new bridges and five jetties including the190-meter Qarani jetty.
