Staff fired after incorrectly translating iTaukei word

The Tourism Fiji officer who incorrectly translated the word Toilet in iTaukei as Vale-ni-Lotu, which means a place of worship, has been terminated.

Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum revealed this after Opposition MP Lynda Tabuya raised the issue in parliament.


The post was on Tourism Fiji’s official page in April last year.

The translation was incorrect and it was actually on the web site and the mistake that was made was by the staff of Tourism Fiji, who was subsequently fired, that is the issue.
