Privileges Committee Chair Veena Bhatnagar

Privileges Committee Chair Veena Bhatnagar has tabled the Committee’s report in Parliament in the last hour.

While tabling the report, Bhatnagar says whilst it was a consensus report, there were reservations made from the Opposition members with respect to the suspensions specified in the recommendations of the report.

The report recommends that National Federation Party President Pio Tikoduadua and Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama should apologize to each other.

The committee suggested that should they fail to do so, the two will be suspended for six months.

Speaker of Parliament Ratu Epeli Nailatikau has adjourned Parliament proceedings for half an hour to allow members of Parliament to read the report from the Privileges Committee.

A motion by a member of the Privileges Committee is currently being heard in Parliament.
