Plan in place for 100% access to electricity

The government is embarking on a plan to provide one hundred percent access to electricity by 2021.

Infrastructure Minister Jone Usamate says the government is focused on the Rural Electrification Project and ensuring all Fijians are part of the ongoing development.

Usamate says the government has invested more money into the project and they will make sure electricity is delivered in a timely manner.

“Challenges in terms of the acquisition of land, sometimes the roads get washed away and other things get washed away and the timely delivery of materials.”

In this year’s budget, the government has allocated an additional $47 million for the construction of 176 schemes.
