Speaker of the House, Ratu Epeli Nailatikau says despite the defeat, the petition will be reviewed as it meets 40 percent requirement of member’s approval under the Standing Order.

“The motion is therefore defeated but we go by the percentage and therefore, it satisfied the percentage and it will be referred to the appropriate committee.”

Ratu Epeli says this means that 21 members who voted in favour of the motion will be agreed too.
