More than $20,000 collected in fishing licence fees in 2017

$22,973 was collected by the Ministry of Fisheries from the issuance of inshore fishing licence in 2017.

This was confirmed in parliament by Minister for Fisheries Semi Koroilavesau.

Koroilavesau says fisheries officers have been working around the clock to collect revenue from people who are engaged in commercial fishing.

“The total revenue collected in 2017 is $22, 973 – 21. This revenue is collected from our divisional service centres in the north, central, western and eastern”.

The minister also confirms that Fijians who are fishing in their iqoliqoli are not required to pay any fishing licence fee.

He states the licence will safeguard the fishing term of local commercial fishermen.
