Ministry commences with its master plans review

The Local Government Ministry has commenced on its extensive review master plans for the greater Suva, Lautoka and Nadi area.

Minister responsible, Premila Kumar says there is a need for the town planning scheme to be reviewed by Municipal Councils.

Kumar confirms the work is being undertaken by world-renowned architect Dr Liu Thai Ker.

The Local government committee has been working hand in hand with the ministry in the area of town and city declaration, extension of town boundaries, development of terms of reference for the review of Local Government Act –identification of new growth town centers [Nabouwalu, Seaqaqa, Keiyasi and Korovou assisting with the development of master plan and in the amalgamation Municipal Councils with the former Rural Local Authorities.

Meanwhile, the ministry will soon appoint 5 special administrators to oversee the strategic management and provide assistance to municipal councils around the country.
