The Fijian Media Association has commended the Parliament secretariat for the establishment of a press gallery within the chambers of the house.

FMA’s General Secretary, Stanley Simpson says it’s encouraging that dialogue with the late Speaker of the House Dr. Jiko Luveni and the Parliament secretariat has led to this outcome which will benefit all parties.

“This will now be, will allow the media and enable the media to cover the proceedings better.  They’ll be able to listen carefully and look at the proceedings much better than they do at the moment, hear things much clearer and be able to get a general sense of what’s going on, a proper sense of what’s going on in Parliament and be able to report Parliament better and more accurately.”

Simpson says the new press gallery will also be one of the many achievements of the late Speaker and her influence both within the chambers and outside of it.

The press gallery which is currently under construction is being fully funded by the Chinese government.

It’s expected to be ready and operational in time for the next Parliament session, scheduled for the 11th of February.
