Akbar says the project is important as it will keep all the traditional artefacts and histories of the Girmitiya’s not only for the locals but also for international audiences as well.

“I strongly believe that we need to preserve our heritage whether its Girmitiya’s or groups that have made an impact on Fiji’s history and contributed to the socio-economic development of our community so the overall plan and the design work we haven’t finalize that.”

Akbar has also admitted that many young generations don’t know much about their history.

The Minister believes this project will greatly benefit them.
