Parliament Operations is running at capacity with continued assistance from donors and the recruitment of additional staff.
Secretary General to Parliament, Viniana Namosimalua says a recent tour of New Zealand’s parliament has been invaluable with a number of their systems and processes expected to be adopted to fit in with Fiji’s parliamentary processes.
“We are running abit smoothly now that we have recruited people and sorted the assistance from UNDP and others who have, are willing to help us out and pretty happy that we are getting things organized and we’ve gone on that NZ tour to see how they do things there and we’ve come back with new ideas and we’re actually going to be implementing some of the things we’ve seen in the next few months.”
The Secretary General adds that the parliament calendar is also picking up with an extraordinary session scheduled for Wednesday next week for an address by India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi who will be in Fiji on a state visit.
In the same week 2 days later, the 2015 national budget address by the new government will be announced.
