Parents urged to create an open environment for children

Save the Children Fiji is urging parents to bring up their children in an environment where they can openly talk about issues and know there’s always support to guide them through difficult times.

Chief Executive, Iris Low-McKenzie says it’s important that children grow up knowing there are people they can trust and talk to about anything.

Low-McKenzie says most times children are not guided and this is a serious concern which must be addressed.

_“So I think it’s around how we bring up our children as well right from when they’re young to teach them and mould them and support them to be able to talk to you about anything and not be scared to talk to you because of the implications. And just guiding them through making wrong and right decisions and whatever decisions they make-is critical that we support them in a positive way.” _

The NGO’S Child Protection Coordinator, Nainse Waqamailau says that the safety of children should also be a priority over all other obligations and responsibilities.
