Parents reminded of children safety

February 10, 2018 5:32 am

Police will not hesitate to lay charges of negligence in the event if a child falls victim to any harm during the adverse weather situation currently being experienced in some parts of the country

Acting Chief Operations ACP Maretino Qiolevu says officers in the Western Division during their visitation have spent a lot of time telling children not to swim in rivers.

He says that this is extremely worrying considering all the advisories issued and yet children still are still found to be swimming in swollen rivers.

Qiolevu says parents and guardians need to remain vigilant and must keep an eye on their children.

Meanwhile, mariners have also been advised to take the necessary safety precautions and small boat operators to put off all unnecessary travel.

ACP Qiolevu says officers at the Savusavu Police Station have had to attend to four different reports whereby strong winds and waves have capsized small boats resulting in small rescue operations.
