Hundreds of parents and students turned up at the Education office frustrated with the long process of topping up their E-transport card.

With term two beginning today for many students around Fiji, for some they weren’t able to attend school as they were still trying to sort out their free bus fare cards with the Ministry.

Some parents were turned away as they were told to get their forms signed from the school their children attend.

Meanwhile, the Education Ministry has stated that all students carrying blue e-Transport cards simply need to get the balance loaded onto their cards using the “redeem” function on any e-Ticketing machines.

However, for sixty-year-old Makereta Silikiwai this was not the case as she had to travel all the way from Lami to the Education office.

“Well we have a long line of people waiting for their children’s cards to be topped up but it’s taking us a lot of time, and it’s wasting our time going here and going there.”

The Ministry has also stated that they have successfully topped up Government’s subsidized student e-Transport cards (blue cards), which are now eligible for redemption.
