PAFCO starts work on new cold storage facility

The Pacific Fishing Company has started work on the construction of a new cold storage facility at its premises in Levuka.

The ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the new facility was held this morning.

Chief Guest Tui Levuka Ratu Seru Rokotuinaceva says the new facility will give the people of Ovalau more employment opportunities and improve lives.

PAFCO– has been the lifeline of the people of Levuka due it immeasurable contribution to the vanua and the small towns economy.

When completed the new facility will have the capacity to hold 3200 tonnes of fish stored in 4000 beams in pipe stacks.

The Construction of the new facility is made possible through a $9m loan from government and a $7m loan from PAFCO’s main buyer in North America ‘Bumble Bee Foods Limited’.

The building works is being undertaken by NZ based Pacific Engineering projects and the construction work is expected to be completed at the end of October 2016
