Pacific Ministers unanimous on healthier countries

Pacific Health Ministers have recommitted to its vision of Healthy Islands this was unanimously decided in its outcome document at the conclusion of the meeting on Friday.

Minister for Health Jone Usamate says the 2015 Yanuca Island Declaration reaffirms their commitment to the vision set out 20 years ago.

“They have pledged to articulate a governance and accountability framework. Right at the outset we have mentioned that while we have a vision one of the important things that we need to do is to make sure we make that vision a reality so in this meeting we ministers have pledged to put in place accountability and governance framework that will allow us to lead to implementation.”

At the end of the three day meeting Pacific health leaders decided on making five pledges.

These outcomes have been decided to further the cause of fulfilling its vision of creating Healthy Islands.

The next Pacific Health Ministers Meeting will be held in Cook Islands in 2017.
