Pacific leaders agree to more engagement

Pacific leaders at the 3rd Engaging with the Pacific meeting in Denarau have agreed to further their engagements within the region.

At the closing of the meeting – Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and leaders and ministers of 13 other Pacific Island countries signed a communiqué on common issues that need attention.

The leaders acknowledged the important role Pacific Smalls Islands Developing States play in effectively advancing the interests of the region at the United Nations and in the wider international community.

They have also agreed to shift the PSIDS mindset from vulnerability of our region to the promotion of a pristine and healthy Pacific Ocean ecosystem.

Speaking at the closing of the meeting Bainimarama re-iterated Fiji’s commitment to co-operate with member countries.
