Pacific easy target for counterfeit goods: AG

The spread of counterfeit goods has become a global problem and the Pacific is an easy target says Minister for Trade Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Speaking at the International Standards Organization meeting Sayed-Khiayum says traders exporting low cost, sub-standard, and counterfeit products take advantage of the Pacific.

“Counterfeiting consumer goods, range from apparel and footwear, to medicines and industrial machines. This makes modern standards regulations and consumer protection laws even more vital."

Sayed-Khaiyum says this is not only an issue of unscrupulous companies and marketing tactics, but it is also an issue of enforcement, adequate resources, and poverty.
