Despite the support shown by Pacific Island countries to improve human rights for people in the region, they will continue to struggle in terms of meeting their targets due to the lack of resources.
However this commitment has been praised.
Attorney General Aiyaz Sayed Khaiyum says island countries will continue to work together in making sure human rights are respected and understood.
“When we talk about rights we cannot discuss it in some far away distant where we think it will sit separately from mainstream policy making. It is very important for us to understand the application of rights needs to be mainstreamed into our policies.”
Sayed-Khaiyum also says the need for technical support for the Pacific Island Countries is important when dealing with human rights.
