The first sitting of the Committee was scheduled for earlier this month… but did not eventuate due to differences amongst the members.

‘’The composition of the public accounts committee and the appointment of the chairmanship has been going on… dragging but I have already told them by the end of this week we should settle the appointment of the chairman and also that the public accounts committee should carry on and work on their role’’.

Section 117 subsection 1 of the standing order provides “at the first meeting of each standing committee the members must elect a chairperson and a deputy chair person amongst themselves.”

The opposition maintains it supports NFP leader Biman Prasad as chair while the government side does not support Prasad claiming he has publicly scrutinized the auditor general’s reports without convening the first meeting.
