Overwhelming complaints leads to MSAF terminations

Permanent Secretary for Infrastructure and Board Chair for the Maritime Safety Authority, David Kolitagane has clarified the recent terminations at the Authority was in response to numerous complaints from the staff and stakeholders.

On Thursday, the Board terminated with immediate effect, the Chief Executive officer John Tunidau, the Manager Finance Navin Kamlesh, the Manager Human Resources Louisa Tuimabualau and Senior Engineer – Ieli Sefeti.

“Ultimately it’s again our clients, the stakeholders that we serve, there was a lot of complaints, we’ve seen some financial issues that may have been not managed properly so the board has decided to change the management and to do a restructure in MSAF.”

Kolitagane says the Board will look into further action against the now sacked four ensuring that proper procedures are followed and any outstanding issues are dealt with.

The new MSAF board includes Sigatoka based businessman Jay Whyte, Radio Program Director Satya Nand, Accountant – Anabel Ali and Lawyer – Ofa Solimailagi.

MSAF Manager Safety and Compliance Captain Philip Hill has been appointed the Acting chief executive.
