Overseas company to sew new flags

June 12, 2015 5:13 am

The government is looking for an overseas company to manufacture the new Fiji flag – once the design is finalised.

Acting Prime Minister Aiyaz Sayed- Khaiyum says there are no local companies that make flags and they’ve already begun the process of finding a manufacturer.

“We’ll have to go off-shore. We’d like to go directly to the source or supplier. We’ve already advertised this. Some countries have even suggested where they make their flags.”

The government needs about two months to prepare for the new flag – this includes manufacturing thousands of flags for all government buildings, offices, foreign missions and national venues.

The feedback period for the new flag ends on 30th June – the final selection then goes to parliament and will be officially unveiled on October 10th.
