Overcrowding, a major issue for PRB

Overcrowded flats are the biggest challenge for the Public Rental Board.

PRB Acting General Manager Pat Veu says a total of six people are allowed to live in a two bedroom flat, while only four people are allowed to stay in a one bedroom flat.

Veu says despite their rule, it’s still being violated by tenants.

“We have issued notices if they can move forward but as you know housing is quite a problem and we are taking it easy with the tenants.”

Veu says they do not really want to evict their tenants, therefore they are progressively working on this issue.

Meanwhile, the PRB is in the process of building 140 units in Newtown, Suva.
