More than 200 dairy farmers will be able to access an insurance package for the first time that provides up to $10,000 cover.
Fiji Cooperative Dairy Company Limited, chief executive, Sachida Nand says farmers in Burebasaga in Rewa, Naluwai, Viria, Muaniweni, Waidawara in Naitasiri, and Waidalice in Tailevu will be able to receive the insurance cover.
Nand says the package provides a combined cover limit of $10,000 per farmer, at a premium payment of $52 anually, or just $1 a week and covers loss of life, funeral, personal accident and fire.
He adds farmers up to the age of 65 are eligible to apply.
“A farmer can have multiple policies so he can select one for himself, his wife and one for kid plus there is possibility of farmer insuring his farms and milkers and others so this could be an added benefit for working with a farmer or for staying on a farm. The farm man is covered under insurance so this can be negotiated between farmer and the farm man so all this personal accident and life and funeral can all be extended to farm hands also if the farmer and the farm hand wishes do to so.”
Nand confirms there are currently 260 registered dairy farmers and 240 suppliers.
The Dairy Farmers Insurance Package had been made possible by the engagement of FCDCL with the Pacific Financial Inclusion Programme and Fiji Care Insurance Ltd.
