Over 100 Police officers to be deployed this weekend

Over 100 police officers will be deployed to patrol the major towns and cities this long weekend.

Police Chief of Operations ACP Maretino Qiolevu says there are currently, 80 officer on the ground, however, with the hype of activities 40 more officers will be out monitoring.

Qiolevu says the increased officers are needed as it will assist with visibility in their Easter weekend operation.

He adds they have extended their operations to monitor red zones.

 

“We are very much focusing on the people going around and the opportunist crimes. For this weekend we will be focusing on our red spots and areas.”

Qiolevu says careless drivers will also be on their radar.

 

“Of course our coverage will also be in the form of mobile patrols. If need be we will also be doing traffic checks, road blocks if needed and also checking prisoners as well.”

The force will extend their patrol to all the picnic spots around the country.

Parents and guardians are also being urged to know the whereabouts of their children during this busy period.
