Order paper for National Budget set for today

Parliament’s order paper has been set for today in which the first reading of the 2018/2019 Appropriation Bill will be delivered this evening by Attorney General and Economy Minister – Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.

Not giving any details away, the AG in previous interviews has reiterated this national budget will continue to build on previous budgets with a focus on capital expenditure and sustainable financial management that’s expected to progress another year of continued economic growth, an unprecedented tenth year.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says the focus will be on infrastructure development and government initiatives that have continued to progress Fiji’s growth.

Last year, total expenditure for the 2017/2018 National Budget stood at 4.36 billion dollars with a total projected revenue of 3.85 billion dollars.

As such, the net deficit at the time was estimated at 499.5 million dollars or 4.5 percent of GDP.

The national budget will be announced this evening and will be live on FBC TV from 7.30pm.
