Opposition to Government nomination

Before the announcement of the new President was made, Opposition MP Semesa Karavaki raised a point of order on Konrote’s nomination by the Prime Minister.

Karavaki told the House, Section 83 of the 2013 Constitution disqualifies Konrote from Nomination.

Section 83 of the 2013 Constitution says any person nominated for Presidency should not be a member of or hold any office in any political party.

In her ruling, Speaker of the House Dr Jiko Luveni stated, that she has received written communication from the Fiji First Party informing her of Konrote’s resignation.
