Opposition claims Govt side wants Prasad out

November 12, 2014 5:34 am

The Leader of Opposition Ro Teimumu Kepa says Professor Biman Prasad will remain as chairman of the Public Accounts Committee.

Kepa held a press conference this afternoon saying the deferment of todays PAC meeting is because the government side of the house wants Biman out based on media comments he has made regarding the Auditor General’s reports.

Government Whip and PAC member Semi Koroilavesau says the opposition are entitled to their opinion, however government is only seeking clarification on Biman’s appointment and not the rejection of his nomination as chair.

Koroilavesau says it was agreed to by both parties this morning that the issues were to be discussed and decided on by the Speaker of the House and that both sides of the house would refrain from making comments to the media.

Secretary General to Parliament Viniana Namosimalua has reiterated to FBC News that they stand by their media statement released this morning which explains that the deferment of the committee meeting is because of procedural issues that can only be ruled on by the Speaker of the House, Dr. Jiko Luveni.

Dr. Luveni is currently in Indonesia on official business and returns to Fiji over the weekend.
