Operations in the Laqere market to commence soon

Operations in the new Laqere market is expected to commence soon.

Speaking in parliament today, Minister for Local Government Parveen Bala says the new market is progressing well and it’s nearly 85 percent done.

Bala says the general interior fitting including the carpark work which are expected to commence next month.

“I have been informed by the Nasinu Town council that there is more demand for this stalls and I want to inform the house and assure all those that have applied that we will not disappoint them because we have enough land, we have provisions for the expansion program and upon request we will make sure that we will extend the Nasinu municipal market.”

Bala says priority will be given to those vendors who are selling on road sides and that’s almost 250 people.

He adds the new market will also provide a safe environment for both consumers and vendors.

The market will have 400 vendors, a fish market and disable friendly provisions.

Meanwhile, the project costs $7million.
