Twenty lives have been lost on our roads this year compared to 15 for the same period last year with speeding and drunk drive being the leading causes for road fatalities, says the Police Force.
Of the 20 deaths, 10 were in the Western Division, 8 in the South, while the East and North have recorded one fatality each.
From January to date 15,862 drivers have been booked for speeding and 278 drivers have been arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol.
Acting Police Commissioner, Rusiate Tudravu, says Operation Tatarovi II is now in force throughout the four policing divisions.
ACP Tudravu says over the next 30 days there will be increased activity that will not only include conducting routine operations but Officers will also carry out awareness.
He says they will be working with the Land Transport Authority with the focus on making our roads safer.
However, Tudravu says they will need everyone’s cooperation to achieve this.
