Operation Cavuraka on hold: COMPOL

Operation Cavuraka targeting the eradication of illegal farming of marijuana has been put on hold.

Commissioner of Police Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho says they’re reassessing what the next phase of the operation will be.

“We are currently in the North, in Vanua Levu in particular and there’s other islands up there that we have to look into, we’re currently on an operational pause there, we’re are currently relooking at the information that we have gathered from the initial operation, the first phase of it, that has to be digested into intelligence before we can take that targeted approaches, but we are operational pause right now while going through that information analysis.”

Several farmers have been arrested and charged with illegal cultivation while thousands of marijuana plants have been seized and destroyed under Operation Cavuraka.
