The tourism industry provides many job opportunities for school leavers.

This was stressed by the Fiji Hotel and Tourism Association President, Dixon Seeto. He says with about 14,000 school leavers a year, most of these people are absorbed into the industry.

Seeto says the tourism industry employs a large number of Fijians.

“This industry also gives a lot of opportunities for advancement and also for entry level people coming out of school. We need to absorb as many of these people as we can and one in three jobs in Fiji involves tourism so that’s a good start as we grow the industry, more and more people will be involved in this industry.”

He says the tourism industry is biggest foreign exchange earner and contributes more than thirty percent to our GDP.

Meanwhile, the Association hopes to strengthen its policies on discrimination – in an effort to ensure workers in the tourism industry are well looked after.
