One man is dead following a fire that destroyed a five flat building at Yarawa Road, Nabua last night.

It’s understood, the fire broke out at around mid-night last night.

Escape was impossible for the victim as he was allegedly locked in.

One man told FBC News they were drinking kava at a top-flat of the same building when they saw smoke from the victim’s flat below them.

It’s alleged the man’s wife was also upstairs and had taken the keys with her.

Upon realising the danger, the wife and neighbours attempted to unlock the door from the outside but their efforts proved futile.

Witnesses say the fire engulfed the whole wooden building within minutes and there was nothing anyone could do to save the victim.

Police and NFA officers are at the scene as investigations begin to determine the cause of the fire.
