The old Rewa Bridge
The fear that the old Rewa Bridge becoming a death trap has raised concerns for the Nausori Town Council.
The council has confirmed that metal pieces are falling from the bridge and people using the Syria Park and the Rewa River are at risk.
Council Acting CEO Deo Narayan revealed his anxiety over the Bridge after being questioned by the Public Accounts Committee to give an update on the bridge.
“Since parts of it are sedimentary falling on to the ground and there is a high risk of people getting injured or at any time the bridge can collapse.”
Fiji Roads Authority Chief Executive Jonathan Moore says public safety is paramount to them and they have barricaded and closed the bridge indefinitely.
