Old buildings need renovation: Suva Retailers

Most of the buildings in the Capital City are old and are in need of a renovation.

While many retailers had taken advantage of the 25-percent tax allowance on capital expenditure incurred by government for renovation and improvement of commercial buildings, other businesses are saying it’s not in their plans.

D Gokal and Company Limited Director Vinod Gopal says their building is one of the oldest in Suva however they are not ready for renovation but at the same time welcomes government’s initiative.

”Our organization isn’t looking specifically looking at renovating at this stage but we do see it as a good incentive for other businesses to take advantage of and somewhere down the line will definitely looking at renovating our premises in the city.”

Meanwhile Suva Retailers Association President Vinay Kumar encourages businessmen in the capital to work hard and look for ways to bring back customers after losing people to areas where development has taken place.
