Many officers from the Local Government, Infrastructure and Transport Ministry are not aware of the changes announced in the budget.

Minister, Parveen Kumar says they have organized a symposium to inform the officers about the changes that have taken effect.

“I don’t blame you because this is something new that has come up and the best thing for the way forward for all of us in regards to the service delivery, we need to meet, we need to meet discuss and find the way forward!”

The change include the merger of the services provided by the Rural Local Authority with municipal councils.

Another major announcement in the budget is the increase in grant given to the Rural Local Authority.

The two day symposium ends tomorrow.
