ODPP reveals sexual offences for last month

A 36-year-old man was charged for raping his 26-year-old sister after a drinking party last month.

This has been released by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution which says that a total of twenty people were charged with 24 separate incidents in January.

The offences were sixteen cases of rape, five sexual assault cases and one case each of abduction with intent to have carnal knowledge, indecent assault and defilement.

The Office of the Director of Public Prosecution says one juvenile was also charged for raping a 13-year-old girl from his village.

There were 18 victims of the 24 separate incidents of whom ten victims were under the age of 18 years.

ODDP says there were seven incidents where the victims and the accused were related to one another.

In one incident, a 54-year-old grandfather was charged with rape and sexual assault of his 6-year-old granddaughter and in another incident a 60-year-old uncle was charged with sexual and indecent assault of his 8-year-old niece.

There was one incident where a 20-year-old man was charged for raping his 13-year-old cousin.

There were two separate cases of marital rape where a 46-year-old and a 27-year-old man have been charged for raping their wives.

ODDP says there was a case of a gang rape where five men allegedly raped a 50-year-old woman during a home invasion. The accused persons in this case have also been charged with aggravated robbery.

There was one incident where a 22-year-old man allegedly raped a 35-year-old tourist at a resort and in another incident a 22-year-old man was charged with defilement of a 15-year-old girl at a girl’s hostel.

It says that there was one incident where a 24-year-old man was charged with rape of another 24-year-old man and the alleged incident happened while both of them were returning from a nightclub.
