The Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions will appeal the acquittal of a man and woman each charged with one count of murder.

It was alleged that on November 30th, 2017, Noa Ravutanasau and Melaci Tikomairaratoga assaulted Rusiate Vakalakovi beside the Victoria Parade Total Service Station in Suva.

The two allegedly assaulted Vakalakovi after a heated argument broke out between them at a service station in Suva.

Following the alleged incident, the deceased was taken to the hospital where he later died.

The two were acquitted last month after the Judge found that self-defense justified their actions.

The State is appealing the acquittal because the verdict was unreasonable and could not be supported because there was no evidence of self-defense.

The Notice of Appeal against the acquittal was filed in the Court of Appeal this morning.
