NZ foreign minister makes last minute visit to Fiji

The New Zealand government is ready to help Fiji in any way possible, as focus slowly turns to recovery from TC Winston.

NZ Foreign Minister Murray McCully today made a last minute visit to Fiji to see the devastation first hand and also meet with Fijian authorities on how best to help.

McCully says they have confidence in the leadership shown by the National Disaster Management Office and want to provide resources that can best help them.

“We obviously released relief supplies, very early in the process and have had aircraft flying in here daily since that time – but this was an opportunity for me to meet with my counterpart and the Minister responsible for disaster response to understand how we can best be of assistance in the next few days and the period of recovery that will take place after that.”

The New Zealand government has so far provided three point two million in cash, other humanitarian aid and it’s Defence Force ships and aircraft’s to help in relief efforts.
