The Nausori Town Council is working closely with the Fiji Roads Authority to assess the sizes of culverts within the town.

Council Chief Executive, Deo Narayan says this is due to the continuous flooding in some areas of the town during rainy weather.

Narayan says they are currently assessing the culverts to see whether they are still ideal to cater for the volume of water passing through it during wet weather.

“As far as an immediate action, we are looking at the ability of the gully pits and the volume of water that has to pass through. So for that my workers have been tasked to see that those areas are rightfully checked and kept in a standard to cater for the sudden rise in water level.”

Narayan says they are also undertaking a weekly programme to check all gully pits in frequently flooded areas within the town.

Meanwhile, more than 1000 registered businesses are currently providing services in Nausori Town which caters for Naitaisiri, Rewa and the Tailevu province.
