Fishermen from the outer islands of the Bua Province have been reminded of the bans currently in place by the Ministry of Fisheries.

The fishermen met with Minister Semi Koroilavesau yesterday, as he started his visitation to the fisheries stations in Vanua Levu along with the Permanent Secretary for Fisheries Craig Strong.

Koroilavesau told the fisherman to remember that the turtle ban is still in place and has urged them to respect it.

He also took the time to remind the men of the upcoming Kawakawa (Grouper) and Donu (Coral Trout) seasonal ban.

The ban runs from June to September.

This means there will be no harvesting, killing, selling, buying and eating of the two species come June 1st to 30th September.

Koroilavesau is also urging the public to spread the word of the ban by discussing it with friends, family and to also post it up on social media.

He says when we pledge not to eat these two species from June to September, we are ensuring that we sustain them for our future generations.
