Vanua Levu has a lot of work to do if it wants an international airport says Tui Macuata Ratu Wiliame Katonivere.
He says the North is not yet ready for this new development but is fully supporting the plans for its construction in Vanua Levu.
Speaking to FBC News, Ratu Wiliame says Vanua Levu needs to do its ground work first to fully prepare itself for this development.
He says getting an international airport is a different ball game altogether – adding the Nadi International Airport is what it is today because it was developed over the years.
“We need to have industries here that serve or work with the airport industry. We need to have catering. We need to have tourism here – a viable tourist industry. We don’t need just a few hotels, we need a couple of ten start hotels I may say, 300 room hotels and a lot of activities here.”
Ratu Wiliame says if Vanua Levu starts its ground work now, it will be ready for this international airport in around 10 years’ time.
Government has a long term plan to build an international airport in Vanua Levu and is in the process of looking for a suitable site.
