No wage deductions without approval: Usamate

October 4, 2017 5:20 pm

Employers are not allowed to make any salary or wage deductions of any worker without their permission.

Minister for Employment Jone Usamate highlighted this during a public consultation in Nausori.

Usamate says the only time the employer can make deductions is when approval is being granted by the worker and on any deduction the employer cannot deduct more than fifty per cent from the worker’s pay.

He says deductions have to be agreed upon between employers and workers which should be shown on a payslip.

All employers are urged to keep wages and time record as well.
