The Social Welfare Ministry clarifies that there is no travel restrictions on the usage of $40 e-transport top-up that is part of the Free Bus Fare Scheme.
Permanent Secretary Dr. Josefa Koroivueta says the $40 top-up can be used in any bus providing services around the country.
This follows the reports received from recipients that some bus operators are not allowing them to use their $40 top-up for long distance travel.
“As far as we are concern with the agreement made with Vodafone and the Fiji Bus Operators, there is no such stop gap or such issue that we would have expected. I mean this is very much a news to be hearing it. And we know the $40 top up applies throughout.”
The top-up is given on a monthly basis to senior citizens and persons with disabilities.
A total of 51,000 recipients are currently under the free bus fare scheme.
