The Republic of Fiji Military Forces will not be sending troops to Haiti for peacekeeping operations.
Landforce Commander Colonel Sitiveni Qiliho says the recent announcement that the Fiji Police Force will be sending officers to Haiti is unrelated to the military.
‘’At the moment we’re still on the planning stages and we’re working with the Police on that. No it’s not a military deployment; it is a police deployment but we are looking at how we can assist the Police on that mission to Haiti’’.
Meanwhile, the Fiji Police Force is awaiting cabinet approval to send officers to Haiti as part of United Nations peacekeeping operations.
23 Police officers are expected to be selected for the mission.
