Opposition Leader, Ro Teimumu Kepa says that no one can live off Fiji’s current minimum wage rate of $2.68 per hour.

Kepa says this figure is well below the poverty line.

She says that we can’t continue fooling ourselves with such rate, while others are getting more.

“We are paying the honorable Prime Minister $328, 750 per annum, and $3, 000 per day whilst overseas including other allowances and benefits that allude to him.”

Kepa adds that in this regard, the poor remain poor whilst the rich get richer.

She mentions that it’s the people who should speak about the minimum wage rate being suitable for them or not and not the government.
