No new applications for Homes CARE initiative

The Ministry of Social Welfare has clarified that they will not be accepting any new applications for assistance under the Homes CARE program.

Permanent Secretary – Dr. Josefa Koroivueta says the field teams are working through close to 7000 pending applications covering Lautoka this week and Nadi next week.

“We told them we had a commitment to serve 6800 and Lautoka has had many opportunities in the past and this is a sweep, it’s not a new exercise.”

Meanwhile, the PS notes that a little more than $68 million has been spent under
the Homes CARE program assisting over 60 thousand Fijian families.

Dr. Koroivueta also highlighting that currently an Amnesty remains in place for those recipients of the assistance that were ineligible to return their M-PAISA cards or face hefty penalties.
