No more neglect for rural schools: Reddy

The government will be giving $65,000 in total to Wainimala Secondary School in Naitasiri as part of the Ministry of Education’s focus on developing rural schools.

Visiting the school yesterday, Education Minister, Dr Mahendra Reddy, says gone are the days when parents can no longer send their children to school.

He also reiterated the initiatives undertaken by the government such as free education and free bus fares scheme.

“We will ensure that the infrastructure that you have here is the same that you would have in the urban area. This is part of pillar three of the reform that we are undertaking at the Ministry of Education. Incrementally we will contribute funding to ensure that this school is of top notch.”

Of the $65,000 – $30,000 will be used on their classrooms and $35,000 for the hostel block for the school.
