No license yet for Digicel

September 30, 2015 7:50 pm

The Communications Ministry is still to issue a pay TV broadcast license to Digicel Fiji which recently bought out Sky Pacific.

Minister Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says it’s premature for Digicel to announce any programming or content materials before the issuance of a license.

He says Digicel has made several statements in regards to the acquisition of Sky Pacific Service, prior to being issued the appropriate license by the Fijian Government.

Sayed-Khaiyum adds Digicel has applied for a licence, however this has not been approved for issue and is being considered by the Ministry.

A decision is expected in due course.

The minister says until such time, no statements should be made regarding the operational control of, or any content to be shown by Sky Pacific Service.

Sayed-Khaiyum says it’s premature for Digicel to announce any changes as it can prejudice and pre-empt Government’s authority in this matter and is highly inappropriate.
