No foreign fishing vessels are allowed to fish in Fiji Waters warns Fisheries Minister Semi Koroilavesau.

Koroilavesau says they continue to work with relevant agencies in monitoring Fiji’s Economic Exclusive Zone.

With illegal fishing being a huge concern, Koroilavesau says Fiji will maintain its stance that it will not allow any foreign vessel to fish in our waters.

He says they are closely monitoring all foreign vessels that come to Fiji as they must adhere to the regulations that are in place.

“We do not have any overseas fishing companies that are actually fishing here, you can see them in the hub but they are coming to offload their catch, you see Taiwanese, Koreans, Chinese, they don’t have local licenses they are basically unloading their catches here.”

Koroilavesau says the Fiji Navy is assisting the Ministry in tracking down illegal fishing activities in Fiji Waters.
