No access to Nadi from Suva

March 31, 2012 1:22 am

There isn’t any way through to Nadi from Sigatoka as floodwaters have washed away the approach to the Navo Bridge.

Fiji Roads Authority spokesperson Iliesa Sokia with this report.

“The approaches towards the Nadi end of the Bridge has been washed out otherwise the structure of the bridge still stands. That’s probably one of the major setbacks for us but we have our teams to work on it and as we speak they’re doing some back filling on the structure just to allow some temporary access along the bridge.”

Meanwhile Sokia says they are working around the clock to try and ensure that roads are safe and accessible.

We’re also trying to clear off the damage along Yadua in Sigatoka. A culvert was washed away at the Yadua crossing and this has also shut out the access along the Queens Highway.

And for an update to the road closures around the country, here’s Sokia again.

We can confirm that the Sovi Bay approach is now open. Our men worked on it yesterday and it is now accessible. Other roads that are yet to be open include those along Nadi area in Qeleloa, Tunalia, Yarolevu, Nasesevia, Keolia and the Nausori Highland Roads. These roads are still closed. From the North, Naduna, Bocalevu, Delaikoro and Wairiki are all closed to traffic."
